A fun thing to do this month is the Annual Great Backyard Bird Count February 12-15. www.birdcount.org. It takes only 15 minutes and you can count birds anywhere you are located, even out your office window. It is fun, interesting and helps the cause of birds which one of our barometers of Earth health.
The Siren Song of Antidepressant pills
We have been given the rap that SSRI medication like Paxil and Prozac AKA Serafem are not addictive. Right? Wrong. According to British research they are very addictive and have a long list of negative side effects including GI bleeding. SSRIs are usually handed out like candy to those who might be “depressed: without the benefit of a psychological survey. When such persons are actually listened too, they are found to be in a state of grief or loss and not depressed. Most Americans are in a high state of loss, grief, and shock. In Meridian, Acupuncture, real clinical depression is on the gall bladder meridian. Grief is on the lung meridian and often shows up as colds, stuffy nose, and shortness of breath which leads to malaise, lack of desire and just plain old lack of oxygen to the system. A Fever Can Be Your Best Friend
Did you know that fevers are your body’s built in infection controller? Messing with the fever can actually make you sicker. Unless the fever is well over 104 which is the temperature that kills off viruses it is best to bundle up and go to bed. Drink a lot of water. Instead of Pedialyte use coconut water available from the health food store or even Smart and Final. Coconut water contains the elements closest to human blood. In a pinch it has been known to be used as a substitute in blood transfusions. It tastes good and kids will benefit more from coconut water than the OTC junk they give kids when they are sick.
Drop That Aspirin Right Now
A reminder - NEVER give children aspirin, EVER! Tylenol, according to University of British Columbia at Vancouver results in asthma like symptoms. This is especially interesting since Tylenol is a leading drug used to control pain. One of the leading new diseases is “age onset asthma!” Do you think there is a connection?
When a senior citizen gets asthma they are given steroids which in turn soften bones causing spontaneous fractures in the hips, spine and elsewhere which results in surgeries, hospitals and long term care. I hope this is not another follow the money story. Sorry to be so cynical. I have had a lot of disappointments with the health care system lately.

The swine flu pandemic scare was one of the greatest medical scandals of the century, and was engineered to increase the profits of the drug companies, says the health chief in the European Council. The council is to begin an investigation into the role of the drug companies, and how they influence ‘independent’ authorities such as the World Health Organization, after they passed a resolution from Wolfgang Wodarg, chairman of the Council’s health committee. Dr Wodarg, who is an epidemiologist and former health director in Germany, has followed the swine flu (H1N1 virus) pandemic story unfold. “It is one of the greatest health scandals of the century,” he says. “We have had a mild flu – and a false pandemic.” The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the virus a pandemic last year, and health authorities around the world ordered in large stocks of vaccines. In the UK, chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson predicted 65,000 deaths in the UK, and convinced the government to place a £1bn order for swine flu vaccine. In the event, 251 people in the UK have died from the virus, and the government is now desperately trying to offload vast stocks of the vaccine. Wodarg claims that governments have sealed contracts with drug companies that are triggered when a virus is classified as pandemic. “In this way the producers of vaccines are sure of enormous gains without having any financial risks. Take a Purr from Girish and Call Me in the Morning
Since moving my practice I have learned that I have a couple of healing cats. Some of you have been blessed by the magic of Girish and Streak. Streak often shows up when a person is particularly upset. He pours on the love. In the real world he is not a people person. It is interesting to see his healing work. Girish is female and likes to hang out. She will often show me something that needs to be done by playing with the box or drawer that a product or instrument is located. She gets quite playful when the energy shifts. Should you be allergic to cats, let me know and we will use TBM to heal the allergy.
Goodbye to a Colleague
Speaking of TBM, which stands for Total Body Modification, is a compilation of body work discoveries of hundreds of healers from around the world. Dr. Victor Frank and a friend started the collection. Vic and his wife Diane kept the process going for over 30 years. It is an amazing experience to hang around with such skilled healers and to be considered one of them. Vic was my mentor and teacher when I was in clinic doing what is like a medical internship. We call it an externship just to be different. Last week Diane retired from her stewardship and left the Earth. She will be missed. She used to make a salad from bananas, pineapple, cheddar cheese and unsweetened coconut. Yum.
